Plymstock Fire Station are holding an SEN open event on Saturday 29th March for families of children who would find our other open events inaccessible due to them being too busy and noisy. We’re inviting families along who feel their child(ren) would benefit from and enjoy an opportunity to visit the station in a quiet, calm and accessible way.
What you can expect:
Opportunities to meet and speak to the station crew and learn about our job
See a variety of current fire appliances (subject to operational requirements) as well as our 3 vintage appliances.
Learn about our personal kit and the equipment we use
A quiet visit, with families booking a visit time limited to 10 families at a time.
A calm space away from the action if the day gets too overwhelming and your child needs a break (please just ask a member of the crew)
We won’t be doing a number of activities that we would do at our other open days. This is to ensure we keep the day as quiet and calm as possible:
We won’t be doing any crew demonstrations to keep noise and disruption to a minimum
We won’t be selling any food or drinks but you are more than welcome to bring your own and enjoy a snack while you explore our station
We won’t have our bouncy castle, or other activities
We won’t have a shop set up or be doing any other fundraising such as raffles
We hope to create a calm and inclusive environment throughout the day, where families can enjoy exploring the station and fire appliances at their own speed and everyone feels comfortable to be themselves. To enable this we are going to run (free) ticketing for the event. You will be asked to book a time slot and each 1/2 hour time slot is limited to 10 families, although there is no limit on how long you can stay. This is to ensure we don’t get too busy and should mean limited or no waiting around to speak to crew or look at our appliances and equipment.
Tickets are available from midnight on Wednesday 5th March. Please note you only need to book one ticket per whole family group. Tickets are available at the following link:
Please note:
Parking will not be available on site however there are multiple free parking options located nearby either at the Broadway or at Deans Cross playing fields
The crews and appliances at the event will be operationally active during the day, please follow all staff instructions to keep yourselves safe if an appliance is mobilised
Please respect all signage within the station building as there will be some areas that are out of bounds to the public for operational and safety reasons
If you have any other questions please reach out to us on Facebook:
